Today (2/23) at approximately 10:27 am, Barnegat Police and Fire Department responded to a Fish Pond Terrace address of the Mirage Retirement Community in Barnegat reference a report of a severe burn victim. Upon their arrival they indeed found the homes resident, Ann Honebein, 83, had suffered severe burns to her body. Miss Honebein was transported initially to Atlantic City Trauma Center, but later transferred to Temple Burn Center in Philadelphia due to the extent of her burns.

The subsequent investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI, Ocean County Fire Marshall, and Barnegat Police and Fire Departments found preliminarily that Miss Honebein’s sweater and pants had somehow caught fire while she was at the stove preparing pancakes and tea. Miss Honebein phoned her daughter who responded within minutes from her job just around the corner from the home. Upon her arrival she found her mother on the floor of the kitchen, immediately rendered aid and contacted 911.

There is no further info regarding Miss Honebein’s condition at this time. The investigation continues.
