BARNEGAT CRASH REQUEST FOR INFO

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is requesting any witnesses who observed a single car crash in Barnegat this past Sunday (8/23) to provide information regarding the circumstances contributing to the crash. Witnesses can call OCPO Major Crime Unit Det. Mitchell Remig at 732-929-2027.

On Sunday, August 23, 2015 at approximately 10 pm, the Barnegat Police Department received a phone call regarding a crash which occurred in a wooded area near the “TBS Pit” just outside the Pinewood Estates at approximately 2 pm. The phone call was placed eight hours after the crash by a victim who was stuck standing among a group of individuals outside the car watching the off road activity. As a result of the crash, the caller reported up to 5 victims who were either inside the car or outside who had been driven to Southern Ocean County Hospital for treatment. OCPO Vehicular Homicide Unit was requested to respond to assist in the investigation as it was unclear of all the details of the crash at the time of the call.

OCPO Detective Mitch Remig responded to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and met Patrolman Cranmer of the Barnegat Police Department where they interviewed a victim. It was gathered that they were out in the woods with a large group of people off-roading when an off-road vehicle, possibly driven by a female lost control and veered into the crowd of people. At this time, the investigating agencies are aware of 5 victims who were potentially injured.

The investigation is continuing and the investigating agencies are seeking anyone with further info. The information may be given anonymously.
