On Sunday (10/4), Brick PD responded to the area of Herbertsville Rd and Hulse Avenue for a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. Upon their arrival they found a pedestrian, identified as John M. Leddy, 29, of Brick, had been struck while crossing Herbertsville Road.

The preliminary investigation by the Brick Police Department, Toms River Police Department, Ocean County Prosecutors Office and Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI found that 2015 GMC Sierra, operated by Jeffrey Bevacqua, 52, of Brick was travelling westbound on Herbertsville Rd. The pedestrian, John Leddy, was attempting to cross the roadway, travelling north to south, when he was struck in the westbound lane just before the double center line.

Leddy was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by ambulance with serious internal injuries and multiple broken bones.

Bevacqua showed no visual signs impairment according officers on scene. A search of his cell phone on scene revealed that it was not in use during the time of the crash. His vehicle will be secured at OCSD CSI pending a search and download of the Event Data Recorder. The investigation is ongoing.
