DRIVER CRITICALLY INJURED IN LITTLE EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP OFF ROAD CRASH

On Thursday, June 25, 2015 at approximately 11:57 pm, the Little Egg Harbor Township Police Department, Squad 85 and Station 71 were dispatched to the intersection of Nugentown Road and Forest Edge Drive for a report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries. The 911 caller was a passing motorist who had not witnessed the accident, but noticed the vehicle into the tree.

Upon their arrival, the male driver and sole occupant of the 2003 Volkswagon GTI was found unresponsive within the vehicle which had travelled off the roadway into a tree. The victim had to be extricated from the severely damaged vehicle. A medical helicopter was requested to fly the victim, but deteriorating weather conditions subsequently grounded the flight. The victim was then transported via ambulance to AtlantiCare Trauma in Atlantic City.   The victim is listed in critical condition.

Due to the victim’s extensive injuries, notification was made to Ocean County Prosecutor Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI. The preliminary investigation has determined that the vehicle was traveling in a northern direction on Nugentown Road when the operator/ victim, for an unknown reason at this time, lost control of his vehicle rounding a slight curve in the roadway. The vehicle then turned sideways and ultimately came to rest against a large tree alongside the west side of the roadway. The vehicle struck the tree on the passenger side with massive intrusion into the passenger compartment.   The roadway was illuminated with street lights and was wet from rain showers throughout the night.

The driver/victim is identified as Dylan Percy, 22, of Nugentown Road in Little Egg Harbor Township. The continuing investigation is being conducted by the Little Egg Harbor Police Department, OCPO, OCSD CSI, with assistance from members of the Toms River Police Department who will be assisting in drafting the scaled crash diagram.
