Drowning at Ocean County Beach

On 7/4 at approximately 2:35pm, a 911 call was made by life guards in Mantoloking reporting that a 22 year old male from Yonkers, NY, had been swimming with friends when he suddenly disappeared from their sight. All area life stands were notified and an extensive search from the air, shore and sea was conducted by the US Coast Guard, NJ State Police, and fire/first aid units from all surrounding municipalities.

At approximately 3:08 pm the victim was located unresponsive in the surf by lifeguards from the Bay Head Improvement Association in the beach area at Strickland Ave in Bay Head. He was brought to shore and CPR was immediately initiated. Ocean County Prosecutor Det. Mitch Remig and Point Beach First Aid took over CPR and turned the victim over to EMS for transport to Brick Hospital where the victim was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The death investigation will be conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI and Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office. There are no further details at this time.
