MANAHAWKIN MAN ARRESTED IN SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE

Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato and Stafford Township Police Chief Thomas Dellane today announced the arrest of Leonardo D. Rugerio, 24, of Manahawkin, NJ, for Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.

The arrest stems from an investigation by Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit Det. Stephanie Bayha and Stafford Township Police Det. Drew Smith, with assistance from Trooper Marcelo Pirez of the New Jersey State Police.

On May 19th, 2016, a twelve (12) year old female victim reported that Rugerio had inappropriately touched her numerous times over the last several years. The partnering detectives’ investigation into the victim’s report would lead to Rugerio’s arrest on Wednesday (6/8/2016).

Based on the facts of the investigation, Sr. Assistant Prosecutor Terry Ann Linardakis approved the above charges. The Honorable James M. Blaney set the defendant’s bail at $100,000, no 10% and ordered a Nicole Law (No Contact Order). Rugerio was lodge in to the Ocean County Jail in default of bail

The media and public are reminded that criminal charges are merely accusations and that these defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
