Manchester Fatal Fire

On Saturday, September 26, 2015 at approximately 0638 hours, the Manchester Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to 43E Cambridge Circle in Leisure Village for a structure fire. Upon the arrival of police, it was learned a subject was entrapped in the residence. Officers forced entry and found an unresponsive female near the front sliding doors. The subject succumbed to her injuries received from the fire. The decedent was identified as Rita Hernandez (DOB 12/03/1936) and was the sole occupant of the residence. OCPO Arson Unit, OCME and OCSD CSI was requested to respond. The 911 caller was a neighbor who smelled smoke on retrieving the mail.

A thorough scene examination was conducted at it was determined that the fire was accidental in nature. The origin of the fire is determined to be along the east knee wall in the kitchen. Investigators are unable to eliminate the failure of energized electrical equipment as a cause to the fire.

2 pet birds and a cat also died in the fire.
