Prosecutor’s Special Operations Group and Berkeley Police Team Up in Latest Drug Investigation

Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato announced today the culmination of an investigation into drug activity in the Ocean County area.

Detectives from the Prosecutor’s Special Operations Group, Northern Enforcement Unit conducted a cooperative multi agency drug investigation with the Berkeley Township Police Department that resulted in the arrest of 6 Ocean County residents on various drug charges.  During the course of the investigation, Detectives obtained search warrants for two locations at the Berkeley Garden Apartments 41 Frederick Drive Bayville NJ, specifically apartments B-3 and A-20. The two apartments were identified as being utilized to store and distribute CDS.

During the early morning hours of September 10, 2014 Detectives from the Prosecutor’s Northern Enforcement Unit, along with members of the Berkeley Township Police Department, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit, the Ocean County Regional SWAT Team and the Toms River Police K-9 Unit executed the no knock search warrants search warrants on the mentioned apartments.  As a result, police seized a quantity of cocaine over one half ounce, a quantity of marijuana, a quantity of Suboxone and assorted drug paraphernalia commonly utilized in the packaging and distribution of CDS. Police also seized approximately $5200 in cash and two large combat style knives.

Luis Cano, age 44 of 41 Frederick Boulevard Apartment B-3, Bayville NJ was arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of  Cocaine with Intent to Distribute while being within 500 feet of a public housing facility, Possession of a weapon, Possession of  Suboxone, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  The Honorable Superior Court Judge Francis R. Hodgson Jr. JSC set bail at $100,000 cash only for Mr. Cano who was subsequently housed in the Ocean County Jail.

Omar “Scoop”Alford, age 31 of 41 Frederick Boulevard Apartment B-3, Bayville NJ was arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of  Cocaine with Intent to Distribute while being within 500 feet of a public housing facility, Possession of a weapon, Possession of  Suboxone, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  The Honorable Superior Court Judge Francis R. Hodgson Jr. JSC set bail at $100,000 cash only for Mr. Alford who was subsequently housed in the Ocean County Jail.

Tasha Aguirre, age 34 of 41 Frederick Boulevard Apartment B-3, Bayville NJ was arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of  Cocaine with Intent to Distribute while being within 500 feet of a public housing facility, Possession of a weapon, Possession of  Suboxone, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  The Honorable Superior Court Judge Francis R. Hodgson Jr. JSC set bail at $75,000 cash only for Ms. Aguirre who was subsequently housed in the Ocean County Jail.

Joseph Hoopingarner, age 36 of 41 Frederick Boulevard Apartment A-20, Bayville NJ was arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute while being within 500 feet of a public housing facility, Possession of handcuffs and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  The Honorable Superior Court Judge Francis R. Hodgson Jr. JSC set bail at $50,000 no ten percent for Mr. Hoopingarner who was subsequently housed in the Ocean County Jail.

Lonnie Jackson aka “LB”, age 26 of 41 Frederick Boulevard Apartment A-20, Bayville NJ was arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute while being within 500 feet of a public housing facility, Possession of handcuffs and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  The Honorable Superior Court Judge Francis R. Hodgson Jr. JSC set bail at $50,000 no ten percent for Mr. Jackson who was subsequently housed in the Ocean County Jail.

Christopher Scully, age 24 of 41 Frederick Boulevard Apartment A-20, Bayville NJ and 69 Pelican Drive, Bayville NJ was arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute while being within 500 feet of a public housing facility, Possession of handcuffs and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  The Honorable Superior Court Judge Francis R. Hodgson Jr. JSC set bail at $50,000 no ten percent for Mr. Scully who was subsequently housed in the Ocean County Jail.

Charges have been filed against the following individual who has yet to be arrested:

Kyley J. Barros, age 24 of 41 Frederick Boulevard Apartment A-20, Bayville NJ was charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to distribute while being within 500 feet of a public housing facility and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  The Honorable Superior Court Judge Francis R. Hodgson Jr. JSC set bail at $50,000 no ten percent for Ms. Barros.
