SEXUAL ASSAULT DEFENDANT COURT ACTIVITY – ALL CASES ARE UNRELATED AND WERE PROSECUTED BY SENIOR ASSISTANT PROSECUTOR TERRY ANN LINARDAKIS

1) Defendant Russell Cortese, 66, of Jersey City pled guilty before Judge Daniels on December 7, 2015, to 1st degree Aggravated Sexual Assault. Victim was a 4 year old known to the defendant. The incident occurred in August 2015 in Point Pleasant Borough. The matter was investigated by OCPO Special Victims Det. Melissa Matthews and Point Pleasant Beach Police Det. Michelle Hill. State requesting 15 years in New Jersey State Prison with 15 year period of parole ineligibility along with Parole Supervision for Life, Megan’s Registration and Nicole’s law (No victim contact). Sentencing will occur after the AVENAL evaluation. Debra Giordano of the OCPO Victim/Witness Advocates Office assisted the family.

2) Defendant Manuel Ramos, 40, of Newark was sentenced on December 7, 2015 by Judge Daniels on two counts of second degree Sexual Assault to 7 years in New Jersey State Prison (No Early Release applies) concurrent on each count along with Parole Supervision for Life, Megan’s Registration and Nicole’s law.   Ramos had previously pled guilty during the contested trial in August 2015 at the conclusion of the State’s presentation of its evidence. The incidents occurred between October and December of 2011 in Forked River. Victims were 7 and 8 years old at the time and were known to the defendant. The case was investigated by OCPO Det. Anthony Paciulli, OCPO Det. Melissa Matthews and Forked River Police Det. James Wood. Both victims had testified during the trial. Debra Giordano of OCPO Victim/Witness Advocates Office assisted the family throughout the process. Defendant was not found repetitive and compulsive under the AVENAL evaluation. The State had requested 8 years and defense argued for 6 years.

3) Defendant Carl Creadle, 47, of Lakewood was sentenced on December 7, 2015 by Judge Daniels to on one count of 1st degree Aggravated Sexual Assault to 15 years in New Jersey State Prison with a 15 year period of parole ineligibility, along with Parole Supervision for Life, Megan’s Registration and Nicole’s law. Defendant had previously pled guilty pre-indictment. The incident occurred in February of 2015 in Lakewood. The victim was 6 years old and known to the defendant. The matter was investigated by OCPO Sgt. Jason Steele, OCPO Det. Stephanie Bayha, and Lakewood Police Officer Edgardo Vega Jr. Debra Giordano of OCPO Victim/Witness Advocates Office assisted the family. The defendant was found not to be repetitive and compulsive under the AVENAL evaluation.
