SHIP BOTTOM FATAL CRASH

On Wednesday (2/10) at approximately 3:40 pm, Ship Bottom police responded to the intersection of Route 72 and Barnegat Ave for a report of a 2 vehicle crash involving serious injuries.

The subsequent investigation by Ocean County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Investigation Det. Michael Proto, Ship Bottom Police Department, Long Beach Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI Unit found that failure to observe a red traffic signal due to driver inattention contributed to the crash.

Reconstruction of the events leading to the crash found that a 2008 PT Cruiser being driven by Lori Pelosi, 53, of Long Beach, was traveling south on Barnegat Ave when she failed to observe a red traffic signal, proceeded into the intersection and was struck on her driver’s side by a 2009 Ford F-350 Pick-up being driven by Todd Parillo, 49, of Little Egg Harbor. Parillo was driving west on Route 72 when he collided into Pelosi’s vehicle with his front end. Parillo had a green traffic signal as he approached the intersection.

Pelosi was restrained, however, sustained serious injury and was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries. She was pronounced dead at 4:30 pm. Parillo was uninjured and refused medical attention at the scene. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.
