Shooting being investigated

On 11/14/2015, at approximately 2:53 pm, the Toms River Police Department responded to Community Medical Center for the report of a victim with a gunshot wound who had arrived at the hospital. The victim, Waymon P. Young, 39, arrived at CMC driving a 2014 red Chevy Cruze bearing Maryland plates. Young proceeded inside the hospital and abruptly collapsed. Medical personnel treated Young for a single gunshot wound to his upper chest.

Law enforcement arrived at the hospital and attempted to speak with Young. Young provided limited information to law enforcement and ultimately was flown via helicopter to Jersey Shore Trauma Center for additional treatment. Surveillance video showed Young arrived at the hospital alone. Young’s vehicle was secured as part of the continuing investigation.
Young is listed in critical but stable condition at JSMC at this time.

The investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit, Toms River and Berkeley Police Departments is continuing. Anyone with info is asked to call any of the investigating authorities.
