TRAGIC CHILD DROWNING

On 8/17/2015, at approximately 8:33 pm, the Berkeley Twp. Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a missing 2 year old female child.

Patrol officers responded to the area of Bittern Lane, Berkeley, NJ, interviewed the child’s parents and immediately began a search of the surrounding neighborhood. A short time later, patrol officers discovered the child floating in the shallow end of the next door neighbors in ground pool. Life saving measures at the scene was immediately rendered and the unresponsive child was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River for additional treatment. Sadly the child was pronounced deceased at the hospital at 9:24 pm.

Berkeley Township PD secured the decedent’s residence for further investigation.   The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Berkeley Township Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI. The partnering investigating agencies will consult with Assistant Ocean County Prosecutor’s to determine if the filing of any criminal charges is appropriate.
