Victim In Fatal South Toms River Fire Identified

Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato and South Toms River Chief of Police Andy Izatt today announced the identity of the victim of yesterday’s fatal fire at 95 S. Main Street, South Toms River. The victim has been identified as Dianna Norwood age 35 of 95 S. Main Street, South Toms River. Ms. Norwood was located by fire fighters in the basement area of the residence. An Autopsy performed earlier today revealed that Ms. Norwood died from smoke inhalation.

 

Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the South Toms River Police Department, the Berkeley Township Police Department working in conjunction with members of the Ocean County Fire Marshals Office and the Ocean County Sheriffs Department have determined that the cause of the blaze was due to the failure of energized electrical equipment in the basement area of the residence. The blaze has been determined to be accidental in nature. Six area firemen were injured while fighting the blaze and were taken to Community Medical Center yesterday. One firefighter was admitted to Community Medical Center and remains there in stable condition.
