Residential Fire Investigation

On Thursday December 15, 2016 at 12:58 pm, Jackson Police Officers Kevin Chesney, Joe Candido and Cassie De La Torre responded to a residence on Huntington Drive on the report of a structure fire after a nearby resident contacted headquarters.
Responding officers observed flames coming from the residence and were unable to make entry due to heavy smoke condition.

Firefighters from Station 54 were quickly on scene and entered the house and located an unconscious 77 year old female in a room at the side of the residence. The female was brought outside where resuscitation efforts were initiated by firefighters from Station 55 and later continued by Quality First Aid and Monoc Paramedics. The female was then transported to an area hospital for further treatment.

The investigation into the fire’s cause and origin was conducted by members of the Jackson Police Department’s Detective Bureau, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and Ocean County Fire Marshal. OCPO Det Thomas Haskell Jr reports that the preliminary investigation found the fire originated in the West bedroom along the Northwest wall. The cause of the fire is accidental, and a failure of energized electrical equipment (wall outlet) could not be eliminated.
