The Scams Just Never End & Repeat Indefinitely in Search of a Naive Victim – “JUST HANG UP!”

This one started back in 2010 and has resurfaced in Ocean County. The caller claims to be with “Cooper Law Firm” and that you owe money from a payday loan. The caller will proceed to use scare tactics, by saying that they will have you arrested or bring legal action against you unless you immediately send the money they request.

In most cases they try to get money from you and in some instances your personal information. As with all scams they are literally impossible to track down because most originate overseas or the source is cryptically masked. Best way to fight them is to never send money, do business or relate personal information to cold callers – “JUST HANG UP”.

Many scams will present themselves as a legitimate company or organization. As in this case, they misrepresent themselves as an employee of US Cash Advance a real company. A scam warning was placed on their website because they have gotten so many complaints.

The OCPO High Tech Crime Unit cannot emphasize enough that your best defense is to just hang up on callers seeking instant payments or personal information over the phone. Especially do not allow intimidation tactics to influence your response.
