UPDATE: LAKEWOOD BODY IDENTIFIED – DEATH A HOMICIDE

A post mortem exam conducted by the Ocean County Medical Examiner on the body found in Lake Shenandoah Park now confirms the positive identification of the victim as Eliabit Mena, 18, of Lakewood.  The manner of death is classified a homicide.

On February 1, 2017 at approximately 2:15 pm, the Lakewood Police Department was notified by a woman out walking her dog in the Park that a male was laying on the ground unresponsive.  Lakewood PD responded and found the male deceased.  The officers secured the scene and the Lakewood Detective Bureau, OCPO Major Crimes Unit and Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI responded to process the scene.

Eliabit Mena was reported missing on Sunday, January 29th by his mother who reported Eliabit was supposed to meet friends at Shenandoah Park that day.  His car was found unoccupied in the park’s parking lot.

The investigation by OCPO and Lakewood PD continues, with assistance from the Ocean County Sherriff’s Department CSI.  The lead detectives in the case are OCPO Major Crime Unit Det. John Murphy and Lakewood PD Det.
