Possibly Tainted Heroin Being Sold in Ocean County

Toms River, NJ – Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato is issuing a warning about what may be tainted heroin being sold in Ocean County.

On Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 10:11 am, police were dispatched to a Stafford Township residence following a 9-1-1 call reporting an unconscious and unresponsive individual.   Stafford Township Police and MONOC First Aid Squad arrived and found a deceased 18 year old male laying on his back on the floor of a bedroom in the residence.  The decedent was pronounced dead via telemetry at 10:13am by Dr. Ariyapraki from Newark Beth Israel Hospital.

Officers quickly observed at the scene several empty wax folds indicative of packaging of CDS, as well as, several wax folds containing a white powdery substance. The wax folds were stamped with a picture of the “Hello Kitty” character.  The scene was processed and photographed by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CIU.

Prosecutor Coronato cautions that this death may have been caused by a batch of heroin that included toxic elements which would prove fatal without medical attention.   The Ocean County Lab has found that the tested residual product found at the scene of the Stafford death was almost entirely composed of Fentanyl with a yet to be determined cutting agent.  Anyone with information regarding individuals selling the “Hello Kitty Character” heroin stamp or with information on possible dealers should contact:  the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Special Operations Group at (732) 929-2027 ext. 3235.
