Brick Motor Vehicle Crash

A 2014 Mazda was in the parking lot of 2132 Route 88 attempting to back out of a parking space. The crash occurred when Emil Medina, 36 of Point Pleasant, NJ, lost control of his vehicle and drove into Lo’s Garden restaurant. The vehicle struck two employees who were standing inside the restaurant. The employees were thrown into the kitchen area with serious injuries.

Brick Township Police Emergency Medical Services along with MONOC Paramedics responded to transport the employees to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Laurelton Fire Company responded to assist. Brick Township Building Department personnel responded to check on the building, which was deemed safe after their inspection.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation but it appears the driver may have mistakenly put his vehicle into drive instead of reverse. Alcohol or drugs nor cell phone use appear to be a factor in this crash. Ptl. Dierking of the Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit responded to investigate the crash.
