Police responded to a residence on Lime Road for a dispute where a woman was assaulted

On January 28, 2017 at approximately 10:44 PM Brick Police responded to a residence on Lime Road for a dispute where a woman was assaulted.

The arrestee Anthony Veltry (white male, 51 years old, Lime Road, Brick, NJ) was located in the downstairs portion of his residence.  Veltry advised officers that he had a gun. Officers continued to communicate with Veltry and set up a perimeter. Veltry eventually made his way to the doorway of the residence. Officers observed Veltry to be holding a hunting knife (with a blade of approximately 6 inches) in one hand and a bottle of alcohol in the other.  Veltry was covered in his own blood from self-inflicted stab wounds.

Veltry exited the residence and sat on the front porch holding the knife and drinking from the bottle. Veltry claimed that he never had a gun, just knives.  Veltry told officers that he wanted to die and they should shoot him. Officers continued to speak with Veltry until crisis negotiator Sergeant Thomas arrived on scene. Sergeant Thomas took over communication with Veltry. Veltry advised officers on scene that he was going to give them a show.  Veltry began to lightly poke the knife against his abdomen.

A few minutes later Veltry dropped the knife and rolled onto his side. Veltry was taken into custody. Veltry was treated by emergency medical services on scene and transported to an area hospital. Veltry remained in custody at the hospital pending transport to Ocean County Jail.  The Honorable Municipal Court Judge Joseph Grisanti was contacted and issued a warrant for Veltry. Veltry was charged with aggravated assault, and terroristic threats.
