Body Found in Abandoned Residence

Lakewood Township, N.J. – On August 28, 2014 at approximately 8:32 pm, Lakewood Police received a call from a property manager for a Squankum Road residence stating that there may be a deceased individual inside the residence. The property manager was notified by employees of the business next door that there was a foul odor emanating from the residence.

When the property manager made entry into the unsecured abandoned residence, he saw what he believed to be a deceased person. Lakewood PD arrived and made entry into the home and confirmed the presence of a body in the decomposition stage. Lakewood PD Detective Bureau, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI responded to assist in the death investigation.

The male decedent was located in a bedroom in a state of moderate to severe decomposition. There were no obvious signs of outward trauma or foul play noted. Doctor Brodsky of the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and pronounced the decedent at 10:23 pm. The body was removed to Community Medical Center pending a post-mortem examination.

A canvas of the neighborhood revealed that there were a few squatters seen in the area. Most recently, the deceased was observed in the last 2 weeks at the residence. The residence was secured pending the outcome of the autopsy.
