Mantoloking Drowning Final Report

Ocean County Prosecutor Det. Mitchell Remig filed this final report today in the July 4, 2015 Mantoloking Lyman Avenue Beach drowning.

Interviews were conducted of reporting lifeguards and friends of the victim on scene. It was learned that the decedent was an avid surfer and a lifeguard. He was swimming with friends; however none of his friends saw him in distress prior to the victim suddenly disappearing from their sight.

It was reported further that Crimmins had a medical condition which caused seizures. This apparently contributed to his death as per the findings of the Ocean County Medical Examiner who conducted the autopsy upon the victim identified as John A. Crimmins, 22, of Winchester Drive, Yonkers, NY. Doctor Lyla Perez reports: “The post mortem examination determined the cause of death is drowning; naming idiopathic epileptic seizures contributing to the event.”

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office has closed this investigation and offers our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of John Crimmins.
