BRICK TOWNSHIP POLICE INVOLVED SHOOTING

Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato states that the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a police involved shooting that occurred in the Cherry Wood Circle development of Brick Township, NJ.

Preliminary investigation indicates that on August 23, 2015 at approximately 10:50 pm, Brick Township Police were dispatched to 47 Cherry Wood Circle in Brick Township following a 9-1-1 call from a male caller who stated he was going to create a disturbance and immediately hung up.

Brick Township Police Officers responded and upon their arrival were confronted by a Caucasian male approaching them from the residence of 47 Cherry Wood Circle with what appeared to be a black semi-automatic hand gun. After the subject failed to comply with the officer’s orders to drop the weapon, they discharged their duty weapons striking the armed male several times fatally injuring him.

At this time there is nothing further to be released. Identities of all involved are pending family notifications and the investigation is continuing into the specific facts surrounding the event. As per the directive from the Office of the NJ Attorney General all police involved shootings are to be handled solely by the Prosecutor’s Office within the county of the event. The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department is assisting and the investigation is moving forward with the full cooperation of the Brick Township Police Department.
