Defendant Arrested/Charged with Sexual Assault on Child

Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato and Lakewood Police Chief Robert C. Lawson today announced the arrest, on August 13, 2014, of Conrado Santos-Carmona, 27, of Lakewood, NJ by Lakewood Police Detectives Nate Montgomery and Jason Pederson, assisted by Ocean County Prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit Detective Melissa Matthews.

The investigation was initiated after a 6 year-old female victim disclosed to the Lakewood Police Department that Santos-Carmona, who is known to the victim, had allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Based on the victim’s statement, Detective Montgomery and Pederson requested the assistance of OCPO Special Victim’s Unit.  Det. Matthews responded and communicated with the victim and mother to get a clear picture of the allegations.  Following the victim’s interview, the investigating detectives made contact with the defendant.  Santos-Carmona, at the request of the investigating detectives, responded to Lakewood Police Headquarters.

The subsequent investigation resulted in Senior Assistant Prosecutor Terry Linardakis approving Santos-Carmona be charged with Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  His bail was set by the Honorable Rochelle Gizinski, J.S.C. at $250,000 with no 10% option.  Nicole’s Law and a no victim contact order were implemented.  The suspect was remanded to the OC Jail in lieu of bail.

Accordingly, ICE was notified.  The Division of Child Protection and Permanency was also notified as a follow up to the safety and well-being of the victim.

The media and the public are reminded that criminal charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
