Child Support Non PAyment Defendant, Attempts Suicide Prior to Arrest

On 10/9/2014, at approximately 9:04 pm, Detectives from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Warrants Division served a non-payment of child support warrant upon George Clark, 56, at his residence located at the Shore Motel, Route 37, Toms River, NJ.  Clark was taken into custody without incident and transported back to the Sheriff’s Department Warrants Division located at the Mott Place Complex in Toms River.

While Clark was being processed incident to arrest, he began to have difficulty breathing.  The arresting detectives’ immediately contacted dispatch requesting medical attention for Clark.  The arriving medics quickly began a thorough medical evaluation.  Clark described his most significant symptom to be chest discomfort.  Medics checked Clark’s chest area and discovered a puncture wound.

Medics had Clark airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center for additional treatment.  Chest X-rays discovered a single nail lodged in his heart.  Clark is currently in the intensive care unit, and is listed in critical but stable condition.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Crime Scene Unit processed Clark’s room located at the Shore Motel for evidence.  During the search, a Remington Power Actuated Tool was found on the floor beside his bed with a single spent nail casing found inside the tool.  The preliminary investigation indicates Clark suffered the injury prior to arrest, but that his injury was not apparent to the arresting detective’s until Clark began to exhibit distress during processing at the Mott Place Complex.
